Lectionary Readings for the Coming Week

Learn about the Presbyterian Church (USA)

Welcome to The First Presbyterian Church in Springfield!
We are a welcoming congregation that seeks to cultivate disciples of Jesus Christ in a community of learning, healing and sharing.  Located in the heart of Flourtown, we are rich in history and we are boldly forging our future for which we know God is preparing us.  Our congregation believes in the importance of family; commitment to our neighborhood and world through mission; and nurturing  spiritual values through our ministries of worship, education, and fellowship.

Upcoming Events:
First Sundays at First Pres:  Monthly Vespers Service on the first Sunday evening of each month at 7 pm.  Feel free to come as you are to an intimate time of worship through prayer, music, communion and liturgy.  Sunday, Oct. 5 - Vespers music will be provided by Wyndmoor musicians Mike and Mandy Schaller (guitar and vocals.)  Children and youth of all ages are most welcome to participate in this less formal worship experience.

Choir Rehearsals:  Begin Thursday, Sept. 4 @ 7:30 pm for the Adult Choir, and Sunday, Sept. 7 following worship for Youth Choir ages 3rd-12th grade. The Bell Choir will be holding an organizational meeting on Thursday, 9/25 @ 6:30.  If you would like to be a part of this lively group, please join us for pizza and planning.  The Bells will rehearse on Thursday evenings from 6:30-7:30, beginning Oct. 2.

Church Work Day:  Sept. 20, 9-12.  Come with your sleeves rolled up and a heart to serve.  There will be many opportunities of varying degrees of labor-intensity for anyone who feels called to lend a hand to help maintain our beautiful property, spaces and grounds.

New Member Informational Meetings:  Wednesday, Oct 1 @ 7:00 pm, OR Sunday, Oct. 19 @ 12:30 pm.  This is an opportunity to learn more about the life and ministries of the church.  Light refreshments will be served, and child care will be provided.

IHN Hosting:  We will be once again be hosting families from the Interfaith Hospitality Network in the church from Oct. 5 - Oct. 19.  Hosts and Hostesses are needed to provide and serve nightly dinners.  We also need Overnight Hosts, to spend an overnight evening in the church in case of emergency.  Please call the church office to offer assistance, as we provide hospitality to families working to secure permanent housing.

Philabundance: 3rd Saturday of every month 12p.m.-4p.m. Once a month we travel to Philabundance in South Philly (3 blocks from Citizens Bank Park) to help pack Senior boxes, which are delivered to seniors who are unable to get out to shop.  The work is not difficult and the fellowship is fun!  Meet in the church parking lot for carpooling.

Don't forget the Sharing Cupboard!  Canned and packaged food items are desperately needed each week.  Your contributions are much appreciated and always delivered to Germantown Ave. Crisis Ministry on Tuesdays.  The community is welcome to drop off food donations on Sunday mornings between 9-12, and most Monday-Thursday evenings from 7:30-8:30.
